Separate the materials
Timber, bricks, inert rubble, plasterboard, metal and electrical waste may require different handling. Keep asbestos-suspect material untouched and seek specialist advice.
Know who produced the waste
For work completed by a tradesperson, the builder may have waste responsibilities. If you add your own waste to a contractor’s container, the arrangement may have different duties. Clarify who is acting as waste producer and carrier.
Documentation and destination
For relevant commercial non-hazardous waste transfers, a waste transfer note or equivalent documentation is required. Check any carrier registration and permitted destination.
Choose the practical collection route
Ask for a quotation based on weight and volume, road access, vehicle suitability and the proportion that can be recovered or recycled.
